Newer construction and more recent building code standards make for some challenging remodel projects. This circa 2000 two-story home in Belmont dealt a few challenges when the idea of remodeling the kitchen came to fruition. The concept was to move the kitchen from one side of the room to the other. Normally this is rather simple in remodel terms, but a post-tension concrete foundation, second floor I-joists, a gas fireplace in the middle of the room, and an electrical sub panel full to capacity made it a bit more interesting. The end result is a modern kitchen and great room space that is highly personalized to the lifestyle of the home’s original owners.
