This project had two main goals, renewing the primary bathroom with updated finishes while providing increased access and usability for aging in place. Increased access was achieved by removing the dividing wall at the water closet and enlarging the shower. This allowed us to increase the width at the commode and allow for a shower pan that will accommodate a free-standing chair. A barrier-free pan was constructed for a floor level entrance into the shower area. A glass shower screen allows for the containment of water while also providing unhindered access for assisted bathing. Finally, a custom table height vanity has been installed to provide a space for seated grooming. The paint color on the new cabinets was inspired by the bathroom’s original wall color. The end result is a fully remodeled space that has a warm feeling of familiarity for its owner!
